The Battle Over Goat Island (IBLA 166 210) 

In 1997, a newspaper revealed the "discovery" of Goat Island in the Missouri River. A battle  between the states of South Dakota, Nebraska, and the BLM soon started. The battle wasn't over who owned the island, but over the ability of the BLM to even begin surveys of the island. Why would the BLM surveys be so significant? How does an island stay hidden from the time of statehood until 1997? In this webinar, Landon reviews the interesting story of the battle over Goat Island in the IBLA Decision from 2005.
