License Renewals

So I just sent my renewal today for the 12/31/09 expiration to be extended to 12/31/2011. Is my license expiration date now 12/31/2011, or do I have to wait until the Board's website says that? I know it will be moot as of 1/1/2010 due to the law change, but I'm curious for when I submit a map next week.

It's not renewed until BPELS cashes your check and aknowledges your renewal. Once you get that acknowledgement, your expiration date becomes 12/31/2011.

I have given myself a new expiration date several times, no issues.
BPLS did show me as expired, or violated, or delinquent, or some such for a couple months after my check had cleared the bank last time I renewed...

Some bureaucrats may have issues, ask them...

BTW I got my new card last week, but times are tough in Sacramento so give them a break.

put whatever date you want.

That's what I do. Usually if I sign the map after 9-30-09, i will show the expiration as 9-30-11. I don't think it matters, as long as I pay my fees.

Funny

That's pretty much the reason behind the new law. If I submit a map on Dec. 31, 2009 and my expiration is 12/31/2009 then as far as I'm concerned I'm in full compliance with the law. If the recorder thinks they can't record it, thats bunk!

This is why they are taking the requirement off, for those who can't think for themselves. I think the word "expiration" was throwing the recorders for a loop. It should have said "Renewal Date". Anyway, I'm glad to see it go.

If someone wants to practice without a license they can forge a expiration date pretty easily! I've seen it first hand. Someone forged the owners seal and put "Registered Engineer - PLS XXXX" and the COunty still accepted it and recorded it. Good thing they had the expiration date on it though! ;)

It seems like there should be a better way to make sure the Land Surveyor is in direct supervision somehow. It's the twenty-first century, maybe photo I.D's that we file with the County we're working in and can be matched to a database???? No money and maybe nobody really cares. I forget the story, but something similar happend to the same LS and the District Attorney "didn't have time for it".

AB 645

Is AB 645 in effect now (governator approved it in October) or does it go into effect the first of Jan? I was working under the impression that it is already in effect.
