California County and City On-Line Map resources...

How about compiling a list of links to County and City Surveyor’s websites throughout the state and the links to the on-line map resources?

I’ll start:

Riverside, California:
Parcel Maps, Tract Maps, Records of Survey, Tie Sheets, etc.
http://wam.riversideca.gov/PWSurvey/survey.asp

Riverside County:
http://www3.tlma.co.riverside.ca.us/pa/rclis/index.html for the County GIS

http://www.rctlma.org/online/default.aspx for case status

http://www5.rctlma.org/cgi-bin/mapinquiry.pl for access to online maps (R/S, PM, TM, etc.)

BTW - A big thanks to Dane Ince for links to finding maps and doing on-line research in the city and County of San Francisco!

Navigate LA is the portal to CITY of Los Angeles data, but it's been so long since I've used it that I don't know what the next step would be once you get there.

dpwgis.co.la.ca.us/website/survey record will get you to COUNTY of Los Angeles survey data.

Send a message via Yahoo to PLS7393
San Mateo County:

Unfortunately I can only report that San Mateo County has checklists available online at this time:

you can go to San Bernardino County and set up an account for record maps in person in the survey department and talk to George Widmer (909) 387-8152 and email orders to Surveymaporders@dpw.sbcounty.gov

Good service if you already know what you need.

Thanks Ian for Riverside County

You can also go to the 8th floor and bring a hard drive with your application filled out for your company and get everything they have on file (to date) and have a in-office research department in conjunction with http://www3.tlma.co.riverside.ca.us/pa/rclis/index.html as an online resource. Tons of info.

City of LA Electronic Vault:
http://engvault.lacity.org/main/

Instructions for City of LA:
Use This link to Navigate LA:http://eng.lacity.org/index.cfm (Look under Quick Links)

Once you are in Navigate LA, use the pull down menu to go to "Vault" and the city's grid will appear on the map along with a popup (turn off your blocker) for the Electronic Vault will appear as well. You zoom in on the Nav LA site to find your site. Hover the mouse in one spot to find out the grid (XXXbXXX - where X's are numbers). Go to the vault website and change the pull down to FB (Field Books). Enter the grid from NAV LA in his format: XXX-XXX (replacing b with -). Find the index sheet - usually page 99 and it's pretty easy to figure it out from there.

I have a really hard time with the San Diego site. Almost every time I use it, it gets locked up and just runs on with the clock spinning saying "please wait". I usually get frustrated and then will just go down to the county and do it manually. Any tips?

Here's a bunch

If you follow this link and look to the right side, you will find most all County Surveyors. A few are no longer valid. Sorry.

The site Steve lists above is very useful if you know your tract or parcel map recording reference. The following link compliments the one Steve listed if all you know is the tract or parcel map number. It will provide you the recording reference, although it only goes back as far as 1977.

I used to have this problem once in a while, but it hasn't happened in the last four or five months. Maybe they've fixed it? Maybe you need to check to make sure you've got the latest edition of internet explorer? Pop-up blocker?

I used the LA site this past week. As I recall, you need to put the words "survey" and "record" together as one word.

Or you could type in the link, stopping just before the word "survey" and that will get you to its parent page.

San Joaquin County now has record maps and aerials online

http://www.sjgov.org/pubworks/surveyor_records.htm
I just discovered it day before yesterday, don't know when they started but it was recent I'm sure. The link had a problem after my first day using it. I hope I wasn't the cause, but I called yesterday and they are working on it. Just checked it this morning and it is working now. I also have a contact for errata if you find any errors.

And I now see this site was already posted above by DirtyDrafter in November. Sorry about the double post.

You can do all the research you want, but they don't have the maps online, so it's virtually useless unless you have a company up there to pull the docs for you; which I do.
