Surveyors Needed ASAP!! (California)
Date: 2009-08-06, 10:48AM PDT Reply to: job-3g6d2-1309167794@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?] Local firm is looking for qualified professionals to work on an existing project throughout the State of California. Must have the ability to travel within the State of California, including overnight stay of 2-4 weeks at a time. Lodging will be provided when required to stay overnight. Examples of Duties: •Performs on-site accessibility surveys of existing pedestrian paths of travel (sidewalks, street crossings, curb ramps, etc) •Prepares detailed work sheets and makes physical inspections of state highway right of way property utilizing cameras and measuring devices, such as, digital levels and tape measures. •Prepares daily reports to be provided to the Site Survey Manager. •Is capable of extensive travel, being on the road up to five working days per week. Ability to: make accurate computations; write accurate and concise reports; follow through on assignments timely; organize assigned workload; communicate verbally to explain rules and specifications to others and receive verbal and written work assignments; establish effective working relationships; work in a team environment with commitment to quality, customer service, and continuous improvement; ability to review and interpret plans, maps and specifications; ability to read and write proficiently. Minimum Requirements: • Minimum of three years experience in the construction industry. • Experience performing ADA site surveys. • Thorough understanding of California Title 24 Accessibility Code and the ADA Accessibility Guidelines. • Experience working on projects Desired Qualifications: • Experience in working with construction management teams. • Understanding of California Title 24 Accessibility Code, the ADA Accessibility Guidelines, as well as all Federal ADA regulatory requirements (specifically Titles I, II and III), including disability civil rights legislation related to persons with disabilities and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. • Minimum of five years (5) experience working in ADA planning, design, and Transition Plans. • California Licensed Architect, Engineer, or an equivalent mix of formal education and experience. • California ADA Certification. • Some experience in a Public Works professional environment. • Experience in ADA or related civil rights investigations. • Experience in renovation or alteration project and project management. • Possession of a Advanced Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Law and/or a mix of construction and civil rights experience. • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion and to set priorities and manage competing demands. • Able to demonstrate a reliable, responsive and positive work ethic with the highest degree of integrity. • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities required. Classroom and Field Training Provided.

The cynic in me sees an outfit that goes around the state finding ADA violations in public rights-of-way, which are then used as the basis for threats of lawsuits against the agencies in the hope of obtaining settlement money. I hope I'm wrong... .
