Does anybody know where Copperweld monuments can still be purchased?

We've been using Copperweld monuments for many years now. In fact, a local jurisdiction even specs. them for centerline subdivision monuments. However, our local supplier isn't able to get them anymore, and I haven't been able to find any searching the net.

For those that may not have seen them before, I attached a picture found on Charles Swart's site (http://www.landsurveyor.info/monuments4.htm). They're basically a 1.5" brass cap pressed fit onto a copperweld rod. The monument can be driven in as a single unit

The monuments we use are identical to that in the photo, only with an 18" shaft.

Bersten can custom make a similar monument with a brass cap crimped onto a 9/16" stainless rod but they are $55 each, minimum purchase of 11.

We used to set those also. I'd be interested if you find a new supplier.

I was told by my survey supplier that they are no longer produced.

CSDS sold them at least up until 2008 or 2009. That would have been about the last time I bought a bunch of brass caps and they had them on the shelf right below the BCs.

Check with ESC, as their catalog says to "call" 1-800-788-3307

Thanks for the posts & suggestions. I had Gary at ESC look pretty hard for these with no success.

I've found a temporary solution - a surveyor I work with that has his own "machine shop" as a garage made 20 for me. So at least we're set until I can find a comparable replacement.

Hi everyone
I've been having these custom made for many years so we (CSDS) still have them. We also wholesale them out to other survey supply shops, so you can always mention to your local survey supplier that they can contact me so you don't have to have them shipped from Sacramento. The price of metals has gone up quite a bit, so they are expensive, but still less than half the cost of Berstin and no minimum quantity to order! Hope that helps
